Growing up in an artist’s home, Scot’s interest in creativity began at the age of 2 ½ by drawing his first stick figure. His mother worked as a professional artist, igniting his own interests and curiosities about art. His art education is a combination of private instruction, mentors, and academics. While his academic training includes the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Scot feels his real training has come through his mentors, which include Paul Benavides, Seco, Jack Ragland, Milford Zorn and his mother.
As a professional artist, Scot has won numerous awards, the most notable being the Artists Fellowship Award (now The Ventura Mayors Award), winning first place while competing against artists throughout Ventura County. In addition, much of his work is displayed in private collections and galleries.
Not only does Scot work as a professional artist, but he also works as a professional art educator and adult art instructor. As an art teacher, art department chair, administrator, and professional artist, Scot has had a unique opportunity to build not only engaging art programs, but also to encourage and inspire students to use the arts within their chosen career to become increasingly marketable and innovative as adults.
