Linda Kallas is a retired educator of almost two decades. She taught at the Oceanside School District Jefferson Middle School in the areas of Art, Set Design, Drama and also ADB, ELD, English and was involved in Peer Mediation and the Department Head for Electives.
Her Past educational work consists of holding the position as Director of Casa de Ampara Crisis Daycare Center and she’s worked at the Casa Shelter for at risk and abused children and teens. She has been an Instructional Aide in elementary and middle schools and also a classroom volunteer at her own children's school and now at her grandchildren's schools.
Linda holds an AA in Early Childhood Education, 2 BA’s: one in Liberal Studies and the other in Visual Performing Arts. She also has Teaching credentials in Multiple Subjects and Visual Performing Arts, holds supplemental authorization in English and Drama, and a Masters in Teaching. She is also a Certified instructor in Yoga, a Hospice volunteer, a Healing Arts Facilitator and is currently enrolled in the Arts Integration Certificate program.
She is a recipient of various awards, including the JMS Teacher of the Year in 2006 and 2010, Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year 2013, San Diego Art Ed Association Artisimo Award 2014 and was selected for the student art exhibit at the San Diego Airport in collaboration with the Oceanside Museum of Art in 2014.
Since beginning retirement, Linda has created the Character Ed Integrated Art Program in collaboration with the Museum of Art which is implemented at Stuart Mesa (2014-16), called Arts Connect. Arts Connect is located at two OUSD elementary schools and she has trained and coached two teachers for this program. Linda is currently volunteering with Julia Fister at Studio ACE as Arts Education Consultant and has provided numerous art experiences with local businesses and organizations in and around the Oceanside community.
Linda loves to spend time with her husband, son, daughter in law and four grandchildren. She volunteers at church, is learning to golf, attends gym and yoga, enjoys live performances, draws, paints, knits, crochets, sews, loves poetry, reading, nature and keeping up with politics. Linda is currently working on illustrating a children’s book for a friend.
