Join us for a new mosaic workshop with experienced mosaic artist Yolanda Guterriez. Participants will create a stunning 6” x 6” mosaic top for a contemporary black jewelry box, using a variety of mosaic materials, such as glass/ceramic tiles, tesserae, embellishments, and other supplies, all with guided, expert instruction. Learn about different mosaic tools and how to nip and cut colored glass and ceramic tiles to fit your design (no grouting involved).
The wooden jewelry boxes for the project are included in the class fee. Each box measures 9” x 9” and 4.5” high, and has a beautiful satin black finish, inlaid in velvet, with one removable insert for small pieces of jewelry. Your creativity will make it a true one-of-a-kind art piece to hold your precious treasures or to give to someone special!
It is recommended to have a general idea about the design of your piece when attending. Participants are encouraged to bring pictures, drawings of their ideas, or other inspiring sources to class. Yolanda will also provide sources of Inspiration. Above all, enjoy the creative process and have fun!

About The Artist:
Artist & Instructor Yolanda Gutierrez during a workshop at Studio ACE
Yolanda Gutierrez’s journey to the art of mosaic began when she was 5 years old, gathering and sorting pebbles by color with her mother at Fort Cronkite Beach in Marin County for her mother’s mosaics. After many decades away from pebble sorting, she discovered the Institute of Mosaic Art (IMA) in Oakland, CA (the first of its kind!), and was hooked from her first class. She spent many years learning and refining many different mosaic techniques, learning from some of the finest mosaic artists in the area. She has collected all kinds of tesserae from her travels around the world and likes to incorporate these found treasures into a larger story. A current member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA), Yolanda says making mosaics is her meditative happy place.
